Evaluative Analysis
My film is a horror/thriller based film and have used 3 film posters and 4 pieces of merchandise to appeal to my targeted audience. My film would be similar to the film Split and The Impossible based on the horror and thriller themes. My target audience are males and females who like and enjoy watching horror films and get a kick out of being scared and in a state of fear.
The logo of the 'Slash' stayed the exact same throughout making all three posters and 4 pieces of merch. This was to create a recognisable face for each of the products and make my target audience link it back with the film. The idea of weaponry and the theme of eyes stayed as well. This was mainly due to the fact that the theme of sharp objects and eyes was a major part in all three film posters. My merchandise follows genre codes and conventions by following the theme of darkness as well as the blood red text on all three products. This is a common feature for horror films as the harsh contarast between the black and red gives an overall idea that the film is an edgy one that puts people on the edge of their seat. The pieces of merch would attract to my target audience as they would share an interest in the horror and thriller genre.
My posters are similar because of their colour scheme, black and red with a little white for the text. All three of my posters are similar as well because they all follow the same premise that the film revolves around, knifes, axes, and eyes. My first poster was made with an extreme close up of an eye being reflected inside a knife. My second followed the similar steps, an extreme close up of an eye being reflected, this time in an axe. My third poster uses the photograph of the eye in a different way. It uses the eye photograph as the main photo and has slashes going through it. The lighting was very dark for the third poster to exaggerate the extremely of horror films codes and conventions. My target audience would appeal to this as if they cant quite see certain images they'll want to look further into the film and perhaps watch it.
